Barbara gained much of
her experience as a policy analyst and program director with the
National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, where for
more than 10 years she produced informational materials on
groundbreaking issues for governors and their top advisors. Her
background runs the gamut of environmental, transportation, and energy
topics, including climate change, sustainable development, and
community revitalization. Barbara also led the smart growth program at
the Northeast-Midwest Institute, the policy arm of a regional coalition
of U.S. Senators and Representatives, where she collaborated with both
congressional staff and state officials.
As a freelance writer,
Barbara sharpened and expanded her writing skills, producing feature
articles, campaign materials, and reports for a variety of
clients—including the Smithsonian Institution's in-house newspaper, The Torch.
Barbara has a bachelor's degree in political science from Colgate University.
