Hillery Tsumba
Senior Consultant
Hillery Tsumba provides her clients with high-caliber strategic communications skills, from formative research and analysis to campaign management, as well as the creative vision and technical expertise to produce outstanding videos and PSAs.
Hillery’s ability to determine the knowledge and perceptions of target audiences—and then translate that understanding into effective materials and messaging—is a key to her success. For the National Health Service Corps, she has strengthened the appeal and impact of an ambassador program to enlist volunteers to recruit primary care health professionals to work in underserved areas of the United States. She is currently developing and launching a multifaceted communications strategy for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration on Aging to raise awareness about comprehensive services for aging Americans.
As an assistant producer and nonlinear editor, Hillery has created a wide array of videos that deliver compelling educational messaging at conferences and via broadcast, podcast, and online social media. Her work includes 30-second public service announcements for the Fairfax County Saving Babies Coalition, a 20-minute video for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, and a satirical “Good Neighbor” video for The George Washington University that put a humorous spin on asking freshmen students to behave respectfully. Hillery also produces and edits “Today In Plastic Surgery”—a bimonthly audio podcast sponsored by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. In addition, Hillery excels at coordinating efforts between Reingold’s information technology team and clients to translate complex technical information so that it resonates with various audiences. Currently, Hillery is working with the National Health Service Corps to design and develop a private online community for the program’s ambassadors. Through this effort, Hillery must identify client needs and work very closely with the technology team to develop high-impact technology resources to ultimately spur communication between these ambassadors.
Before she joined Reingold, Hillery’s interest in youth development propelled her to produce communications tools heavily influenced by popular culture. She promoted Internet technologies for Kubatana.net, the Zimbabwean Nongovernmental Organization Network Alliance, developing creative materials, assisting with site testing, and producing Web-based public service announcements on children’s educational rights. She also has facilitated prodemocracy workshops and training materials for community leaders.
Hillery earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and African studies from Hampshire College.
