Office of the Mayor
Client
The Office of the Mayor for Washington, D.C., bears
ultimate responsibility for complying with new federal mandates and
supporting an effective healthcare system for all city residents.
Challenge
Washington faced a healthcare crisis. More than half of the District's
5,000+ providers were ill-prepared to meet new mandatory federal
standards under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA)—and could be banned from practicing. To avoid a crippling void
in care, the Mayor's office sought quick action to rescue providers and
protect the city's healthcare system.
Enter Reingold
Together with the Mayor's office, Reingold raced to convene the HIPAA
D.C. Healthcare Provider Summit to set providers in motion. The
conference included educational seminars, a panel of policymakers and
subject matter experts, and an intense training and certification
program. Reingold designed and produced a "save the date" card, press
releases, and scripts for public service announcements to get the word
out, and then created the summit agenda, program guide, event signage,
and collateral materials to make the summit a success. We also packaged
these materials and the speakers' presentations on a mini-CD-ROM for
the attendees.
Results
The District became a
model for other local governments trying to make sense of complex
federal regulations—and in Washington the compliance deadlines were
met. Reingold's efforts to promote the summit resulted in widespread
media coverage and broadcast of our PSAs, and the summit was videotaped
by the D.C. Office of Cable and Telecommunications to air on future
dates.
