D.C. Housing Finance Agency

Client
The D.C. Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA) stimulates and expands homeownership and rental housing opportunities in Washington by issuing mortgage revenue bonds that lower the consumer's cost of purchasing a home and the developer's coss of acquiring, constructing, and rehabilitating rental housing. The agency serves as the city's champion for homeowners and renters and the principal catalyst for neighborhood investment.

Challenge
Although DCHFA's website contained a great deal of useful content, it was poorly organized with difficult navigation, and lacked interactive functions and a content management system to facilitate frequent updates by agency staff. DCHFA engaged Reingold to create an informative and functional website that appeals directly to the agency's diverse key audiences: investors, developers, buyers, realtors, and lenders.

Enter Reingold
Reingold created a multi-audience portal featuring interactive elements and user-friendly navigation. Working with DCHFA's leadership and staff, we established the site's overarching theme of "affordability," integrated with other important themes such as "the American Dream." We also gave the website a look and feel that is both formal and friendly, using Flash animation and graphics to suggest DCHFA's familiarity with technology. Reingold selected images that mix people and buildings, with a strong focus on Washington, D.C. To add interest and functionality to the site, we created a virtual tour of a major DCHFA project, the Carver 2000 Senior Mansion; an interactive map that enables users to click on the delineated D.C. wards to locate DCHFA project sites and pull up information about each one; a mortgage calculator that uses the latest DCHFA mortgage rates to calculate monthly payments and total loan amounts,; and a new media room featuring timely press releases and RSS feeds.

Results
With both old and new website content organized by both audience and topic for easy, dynamic navigation, users can reach the information they need within three clicks. DCHFA can add pages later without any website modification, and the optimized page names, headings, and keywords help drive traffic to the website.
