The Nation's Report Card is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what students across the country know and can do, but too often its data is reduced to a couple of statistics. Reingold's integrated communications strategy brought the data's depth and breadth to light.
The Nation's Report Card data on student achievement in a range of subject areas is comprehensive and complex. To make the data relevant and useful to informed discourse on education practices and policy, the Governing Board needed to highlight the implications and nuances of the data — and reinforce its value against the backdrop of growing anti-testing sentiment nationwide.
Working with the Governing Board, we created and executed an integrated strategy to elevate The Nation's Report Card with every data release. We sharpened messaging on key findings and recruited leading experts to lend insights at release events. We moved the events to highly visible, evocative sites; livestreamed them to growing audiences; and briefed journalists to deepen their coverage.
Data release event attendance grew from fewer than 100 to up to 500 participants from educational, policy, and workforce organizations. We also gained the Governing Board routine coverage in national, regional, and trade outlets.
